The Jackson County Bar Association’s Pyramid of Diversity Award was initiated in 2004 to recognize Kansas City area law firms and corporate legal departments who have excelled in their efforts to enhance diversity for people of color in the Kansas City Metropolitan area based on the following criteria:

• Retention, recruitment and promotion of attorneys of color in the Kansas City Metropolitan area;
• Utilization of goods and services to and/or from clients and community members of color in the Kansas City Metropolitan area;
• Partnership with organizations and/or sponsorship of activities and programs supporting issues impacting people of color in the Kansas City Metropolitan area; or
• Establishment of goals and objectives for enhancing and continuing to enhance diversity for people of color in the Kansas City Metropolitan area over the next twelve (12) months.
